Instant Pot Stuffing Recipe FAQs
Stuffing and dressing are the same thing, but depending on where you are located it may be called differently. In some areas, stuffing is cooked inside a turkey and used to stuff other foods, whereas the seasoned bread mixture would be called dressing if it's baked in the oven.
Broth is a great choice for making stuffing, though you could use either. Homemade turkey stock, for example, is a great replacement for chicken broth in this Instant Pot stuffing recipe.
Instant Pot Stuffing Ingredients
- Sage sausage
- Onion
- Celery
- Hawaiian rolls
- Butter
- Chicken broth
- Poultry seasoning
- Garlic powder
- Salt
- Pepper

How to Make Instant Pot Stuffing
- Set Instant Pot to saute mode and add butter. Let it melt, then add in onion and celery. Cook 2-3 minutes until soft.
- Cook until it browns, breaking it up as it cooks, for about 4 minutes.
- Season with garlic powder, poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir, then add in chicken broth and stir again.
- Add chunks of Hawaiian rolls and gently stir to mix through.
- Spoon everything from the Instant Pot into a greased dish small enough to fit into your Instant Pot. Cover the dish tightly with foil. Create an aluminum foil sling by folding one long piece of foil into a strip and wrapping it around the dish so you can easily lift it out of the pot when needed.
- Add water, then the trivet. Place the foil-wrapped dish on top of the trivet and close the lid. Cook on high pressure for 15 minutes.
- Quick release, then remove the dish from the pot and unwrap.
- Top with sliced green onions, parsley, and gravy if desired. Serve, and enjoy!
Optional: For a beautiful golden-brown crust on your stuffing, pop it in the oven under the broiler for 1-2 minutes!
Tips for Cooking Stuff in the Instant Pot
- Leave Hawaiian rolls out on the counter to dry the day before, or toast them in the oven for 20 minutes. Using dry bread helps absorb moisture without becoming mushy.
- Gently stir when adding in the Hawaiian rolls so they don't crumble or become too soft.
- Broil after cooking the stuffing to add a golden-brown crust.
- Creating a sling out of foil makes it easy to lift the dish out of the pot.

Make Ahead Stuffing in the Instant Pot
You can easily cook Instant pot bread stuffing the day before and crisp it up in the oven right before serving for a beautiful make-ahead stuffing recipe ready ahead of time for the holidays!
How to Store Stuffing
One thing I love about homemade stuffing is that it stores and reheats perfectly!
Store leftover stuffing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up 4 days. Or you can freeze leftover stuffing for up to 3 months. Remember to label with the freezing date and store in a freezer-safe airtight container.
How to Reheat Stuffing
Let your leftover stuffing come to room temperature so that it reheats evenly. Place in the oven at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until warmed through.
Or, you can cook leftovers in the microwave for 2-3 minutes, cooking in 30-second intervals and stirring each time.
